A busy weekend.

This past weekend saw the General Election here in Ireland. I love the drama of a count and watching unfold so add that to a six nations weekend and you get knitting time but only for easy projects!

I have christened these my Rainbow election mitts. I had plenty of yarn left over from my Rainbow cowl and I really loved working with the TownHouse Yarns Saoirse and the Coolree merino/silk when making it so I used the stitch pattern from the cowl to make these

I cast on 44 stitches and left the thumb gap along the 4th colour in each pair. I reversed the colour sequence on the second pair so they could all shine when they are being worn with my coat.

A little something for a little girl.

My little girl tends to receive as disproportionate amount of my handmade items compared to her two brothers. Partly because something like this tunic Maxi top/Dress is so easy  to knit up compared to a jumper.

I have made this pattern before but in a DK weight and when I saw the lovely colours of the Mal Rios in This is knit I knew I wouldn’t be able to leave without it. I originally thought I would pair it with a rich navy but was drawn to the Rico in the gorgeous petrol colour and it turned out to be a pretty good match.

The project used one full skein of the Rios (I just stopped on the length when it ran out) and about 60gms of the Rico. It a perfect length for her and will get plenty of wear due to its versatility.

There is also an added bonus! As I wasn’t sure if I would make the dress or the tunic there is more left over and I think I will make myself a cowl from it.

A lovely quick knit

I had bought a skein of the Hedgehog fibres aran weight yarn as aran is not something I have a lot of. I had been debating what to make with it for a while and finally settled on making a headband to wear instead of a hat. Having long thick hair a hat unless it is slouchy doesn’t alway go with a ponytail! I fancied something something for those mornings where my hair was in leaving down wasn’t really an option (for the benefit of those I see!).

I decided on Calorimetry and it was a really fast easy knit. I had plenty left over so I made these mitts with the left overs Button flap fingerless mitts. I’ve gotten loads of wear from the already and I think there will be more in my knitting future.
